We are delighted to announce our first residency programme in collaboration with Claestorp Castle and the Lewenhaupt family in Södermanland, Sweden. The purpose of this residency is to offer artists a calm place for creativity and productivity, away from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. The change of scenery, and particularly the proximity to nature will hopefully inspire and encourage artists to develop their practice in an organic way.
Located a two hours drive South-West of Stockholm, the estate is nestled in a scenic landscape between deep forests, green fields and lakes. It is a cultural-historical building, which has been with the Lewenhaupt family since the early 15th century, and holds an impressive art collection of Old Master paintings. It is a place rich in Swedish culture and surrounded by other historic sights. We hope that this residency will inspire contemporary artists to look at Swedish history and culture, but also the Swedish landscape and the incredible summer light.
Our first artist-in-residence will be Jessie Stevenson, who will spend the month of July at this incredible place. We are thrilled to have her in Sweden this summer, and very much look forward to exhibiting a new body of work in her first international solo exhibition later this Autumn in Stockholm.
